With so much progress in technology, our lifestyles are changing, and as a result, we’re spending maximum of our time time sitting down – also called ‘being sedentary’ – at home, at work and while travelling we are always sitting.
Waking up in the morning just think about our daily routine, we sit down to have breakfast, sit in the car on the way to work, sit at our workplace all day, drive home back, have our dinner sitting down, and then sit on the couch to watch TV or surf the internet. That’s a lot of sitting down. But do you know sitting a lot, is actually not good for your health.Let’s see how.
Askiguru has discovered Why Sitting Too Much Is Bad for Your Health:
1.It Hurts Your Heart
Sitting for too long can affect your health and to find this experts has conducted a study comparing two similar groups: transit drivers, who sit most of the day, and conductors or guards, who don’t. Although their diet and lifestyle were very similar, those who were sitting were twice as likely to get heart disease as those that stood.
2.It Can Shorten Your Life
If you sit for a long period of time, then you are more likely to die early for any reason. It doesn’t help if you exercise every day or not. Of course, that’s no excuse to skip the gym. But, if you do that, your time may be even shorter.
3.You’ll Undo All That Exercise
The effects of too much sitting are difficult to counter with exercise. Even if you work out 7 hours a week — far more than the recommended 2-3 hours – you can not reverse the effects of sitting 7 hours at a time. Do not throw away all that hard work at the gym by hitting the couch for the rest of the day. Keep moving!
4.You’ll Gain Weight
We all love watching tv surfing web for hours and hours but it can affect our health. If you continue doing so you are more likely to be overweight or obese. If you exercise every day, that’s good, but it won’t make a huge difference in extra weight you gain as a result of too much of sitting on screen time.
5.It Wrecks Your Back
The sitting position puts heavy stress on your back muscles, neck and spinal cord. It’s even worse if you slouch. Find an ergonomic chair – it means that it will be the right height and will support your back in the right place. But remember: No matter how much you feel comfortable, your back will still not like the long sitting session. Get up and move around for a minute or two every half hour to keep your spine in line.
6.Your Cancer Risk Goes Up
You may be more likely to have colon, endometrial, or lung cancer. The more you sit, the more obstacles are there. Older women have higher risk of breast cancer. That doesn’t change if you’re super-active. What matters is how much you sit.
